AGRICULTURE ROUND UP

It has certainly been a busy time in the Agricultural lessons lately - here is a summary!

Year 11 and 12 Agriculture and Primary Industries students attended an Agrifoods Summit at CSU Wagga Wagga - listening to keynote speakers and attending a farm tour.  Year 12 also spent a very hands on lesson, castrating our male calves at school, and did a fantastic job.

Year 10 Agriculture students continued with their paddock to plate theme and spent a day making salami.  They learnt to discern the differences between parts of pig carcasses, mince the carcass, estimate meat vs fat content, which is very important for flavour of salami, mix flavours and study the salamis. We were amazed with the use of a 120 year old sausage stuffer that was impressive in both size and weight.  Thank you Mr Lieschke for the use, and your expertise in operating this wonderful machine!

Year 9 Agriculture students have continued with their rotational activities with a strong focus on caring for animals and plant production.  They are tracking the Merinos' growth rate in preparation for the wether challenge that will be held in Dubbo during August.  They also participated in lamb marking of our commercial sheep herd.

Show Team is to be congratulated on their excellent attendance and participation in the Holbrook Sheep & Wool Fair.  Our results were very pleasing with Grand Champion in Short Wool Ram, Champion Junior Handler & Runner Up Young Judge Meat Sheep, Matilda Jackson and second place in Junior Judging Novice, Merino, Grace Routley.  Our students are looking forward attending their next show in Bendigo.
